I was born a people-pleaser, but as I’ve gotten older I find that I don’t necessarily love this particular quality in myself. Yes, I believe in kindness and being cordial, but I also find that I give “yeses” to people/things/events out of a sense of guilt or fear (that I will make them angry/they’ll no longer like me/etc). And then I find myself burned out on the things I DO want to do! So, how do I find the balance? Enter Sarah Knight’s book, The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck (Little, Brown and Company). Simply put:
“Not giving a f*ck means not spending time, energy, and/or money on things that neither make you happy nor improve your life, so that you have more time, energy, and/or money to devote to the things that do.”

This book doesn’t reveal anything new that we don’t already know, but sometimes a little reminder is helpful! It’s a quick read and gave me small doses of courage to give my time/effort/money/energy to the things I WANT!
