June 2020 TBR

I’m still participating in the Unread Shelf Challenge hosted by Whitney at The Unread Shelf, and this month’s Unread Shelf Challenge is to read a book from a series, so I’m building my June TBR with this thought in mind.

To help me whiddle down my books, I have a few categories I’d like to try to hit each month:

  • A Backlist Title: A Darker Shade of Magic (Shades of Magic, #1) by V.E. Schwab
  • A BOTM Title: On the Come Up by Angie Thomas – along the same lines of THUG?
  • A Nonfiction Title: Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate
  • A NetGalley/Edelweiss Title – Not Like the Movies (Waiting for Tom Hanks, #2) by Kerry Winfrey
  • A Memoir: Stray by Stephanie Danler
  • At least 2 physical ARCs:The Switch by Beth O’LearyThe Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett

Other books up for consideration:

  • Friends and Strangers by J. Courtney Sullivan
  • Transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi
  • The Undocumented Americans by Karla Cornejo Villavicencio

I also pulled some books off my shelves that focus on antiracist narratives because it’s long past time I acknowledge my privilege and become a better ally to POC. I’m starting with:

  • White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism by Robin DiAngelo

Here are some lists with more antiracist books:

Last, because June is Pride Month, I also wanted to pull some queer books off the shelves. Some books up for consideration are:

  • Freshwater by Akwaeke Emezi
  • Real Life by Brandon Taylor
  • All My Mother’s Lovers by Ilana Masad
  • Save Yourself by Cameron Esposito
  • You Exist Too Much by Zaina Arafat
  • Wilder Girls by Rory Power

There you have it! What’s on your list of hopefuls for the month of June?

  1. Wow! You have a lot of books pulled for June. Hope you’re able to get to many of them. I’m reading White Fragility right now and like you and am going to be adding more such books to my reading rotation.
