Last Year I Was Reading is a weekly meme created by Maria over at Reading Maria. This is my first time participating and I’m excited to see what comes up with these posts!
How does one particpate? You take your current read and compare it to what you reading this exact time last year. Which one do you like better? What is different about the books? Any special facts/things you want to make note of or bring attention to? Be sure to link it back to my blog so I can see them!
This year I’m reading…
I’m just about halfway through this one, and while I’m enjoying it, I’m finding it a bit slow. The writing is very plain and I was expecting a lot more action and spying. I think I’ll keep reading just because it is quick, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I’ve contemplated DNFing it!
Last year I was reading…
Patsy was one of my most memorable reads from last year. It portrayed motherhood and the great sacrifices requred of mothers (especially when living life as an illegal immigrant in NYC while your family is still back home in Jamaica) so well. I was incredibly invested in this story and felt like my breath had been taken away by the time I finished it.
There’s no doubt that I would choose Patsy over The Secrets We Kept. It’s well-written, both emotionally and structurally, and it has the power to stick with the reader for a long time.
Thanks so much for joining in! I’ll be adding Patsy to my TBR! I’ve always meant to, but now I definitely will!

I’ve only participated twice and both were totally different…I’m curious how long it will take to have similar books coincide!
